South Africa leads the Rugby Championship standings, head coach Rassie Erasmus is not underestimating the challenge Argentina poses, as they prepare for a tough match in Santiago del Estero this weekend.
The Springboks are currently sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 18 points, after winning all four of their games. Argentina follows in second with 10 points, while New Zealand and Australia trail with seven and four points respectively.
A win this weekend would be significant for South Africa, as it would mark their sixth consecutive victory in the Rugby Championship, setting a new record for the team by surpassing their five-match winning streak from 2009.
Erasmus is gearing up for a tough contest, emphasizing the importance of effective execution, maintaining composure under pressure, and staying focused for the full 80 minutes to keep their chances of winning alive.
A victory would allow the reigning world champions to head into their final game against Argentina in Nelspruit on September 28 with an unbeaten record and the championship title already secured.
“Argentina are a force to be reckoned with at home, and they’ll be even more motivated knowing that a bonus-point victory could keep them in contention for their first-ever title. We know they will not give us an inch,” said Erasmus.
